One of the quietest and modest Rangers at the Club but don’t let his Clark Kent disguise fool you. On the pitch, he changes into a speedy defender who has great stamina and full of determination.
Matt first joined the Rangers in 2013, working through the ranks from Div. 6 to Div. 3 and scoring a brace by the end of the season. During that season, one of the best goals was scored by this bloke. Matt was selected in our Div. 4 side against title favourites Rostrevor (Away). It was a tight game with scores level at 1-1. With around 10 minutes of play left, during an Unley attack, the balls falls to Matt Evans well outside the box who rockets with a half-volley into the back of the net. No one was probably more stunned than him. The game finished 1-2 to the good guys, ended a winning streak for Rostrevor. Love it.
By 2015 Matt had cemented a spot in the reserve side, and was rewarded for his hard work with a call up to first team by the end of the season.
After having a few years away from the Club to focus on his business – the Ranger itch was too much – Matt coming back to where he left off – joining a newly formed backline in the first team this year.
Matt always goes about his business with a smile, never gets fazed by opponents, never gets upset at his team mates and puts in 100% regardless of the scoreline. He’s easy to coach because he listens and supports his team and the Club – setting an example for the people around him.
Go well on Saturday for your 50th game mate!
Come on you Rangers!
